What Space Does a Caterer Actually Need in Your Office?

You've picked the menu and confirmed the headcount. Then the caterer arrives and asks where the power point is. Here's what to sort out before the day.

The five things we ask about

Service space

A rough guide: one metre of table per twenty people for a buffet. Live counters need two metres each plus standing room in front. Boxed service needs almost nothing.

Power

Hot-holding equipment and live counters need sockets — and ideally not the same circuit as your servers. Two 15-amp points covers most setups.

Water access

Somewhere to rinse and refill within reach. A pantry tap is fine; a washroom three floors down is not.

Waste

Where does it go, and who takes it out? Some buildings restrict waste removal to certain hours, which catches people out.

Lift access is the one that ruins days

Getting to your building is straightforward. Getting forty boxes and a hot-holding unit to the fourth floor is where deliveries actually fail.

Most towers in BKC and Lower Parel route food through a shared service lift that other vendors are also booked into — and some need 24 hours' notice. We submit those bookings in advance rather than negotiating at the gate, but we need to know they exist.

If space is genuinely tight

Plenty of Mumbai offices simply don't have room for a counter. That's not a problem — it changes the format rather than ruling catering out.

Packed boxes need no setup at all and travel to desks. Pre-plated service needs a trolley and nothing more. Pantry supply needs a shelf. Only buffets and live counters need real floor space.

See office catering services for how each format works day to day.

Send us a photo

The single most useful thing you can do is photograph the room and the intended service area on your phone and send it with your enquiry. Thirty seconds, and it removes most of the guesswork from planning.

Frequently asked questions

How much table space does a buffet need?

Roughly one metre per twenty people, plus standing room in front. Live counters need about two metres each.

What if we have no space for a counter?

Packed boxes or pre-plated service need almost no setup. Only buffets and live counters require real floor space.

Do you need power and water?

Power for hot-holding and live counters — two 15-amp points covers most setups. Water access nearby for rinsing and refilling.

Who handles the waste?

We clear our own waste and leave the space as we found it, but we need to know where your building allows it to go and at what hours.

Do you arrange the service lift booking?

Yes, along with vehicle passes and staff IDs — submitted ahead of the delivery rather than on arrival. Just tell us what your building requires.
